This book gives good historical context to many issues plaguing our society today, particularly pertaining to sexuality Mr.Denton does a fantastic job tracing the changes in how sex and sexuality have been perceived, and how laws and regulations have been affected as those perceptions change This is a great example of a broad scope of history work, appealing to those who are interested in history s intimate side, those interested in sexuality, gender, laws about sex everyone can find something utterly fascinating in this book Following the history of sexual regulation, this work provides a lens through which we can see contemporary debates and how they have been shaped throughout history This is a success not just as a history book, but as a book about modern issues as well The only critique I have is that since this does cover a long span of time, as the title suggests, each chapter could be expanded into its own book, and each chapter does in fact leave the reader wanting to know about the particular time or place that was focused on in each chapter.
