SAVED BY THE BRIDE by author Fiona Lowe is a Carina Press release for April 2013.Annika Jacobson is the acting mayor and she just wants to have her town s economy improved Improved economy meant jobs for townspeople She would do anything to reach her goal And if it meant gate crashing an engagement party, then she was up for it Finn Callahan does not want to be at his family s summer estate, even to attend his sister s engagement But he meets Annika, and his not very pleasant summer work from home turned very interesting indeed. They had sparkling chemistry and decide to give in to their mutual attraction, but just for the summer Will Annika be able to keep her heart uninvolved through the summer SAVED BY THE BRIDE is a well written romance I loved reading about Finn s parents story And the amazing love story interwoven in the main story of Finn s sister was an added bonus RITA and R BY award winning author Fiona Lowe yet again brings this brilliant romance to her readers and other lovers of romance Highly Recommended

Saved by the bride was a wonderfully written romantic story of two people saving each other from a lifetime of never taken chances and loneliness The book tells of Annika, she has been hiding out for a while in the town of Whitetail, and when I say hiding out I mean trying to focus on anything and everything but her career of painting This I help with anything attitude causes her to land the job of temporary major and also the only person who can save the town by making sure the town hosts the wedding of the year But when breaking an entry to attempt her mad plan she does not count on falling head first into the arms of Finn, nor does she know that this devastatingly handsome come take me to bed eyes hunk of a man will be the one to have her thrown in jail The main characters of Annika and Finn were a delight to read, each had their own inner turmoil s to fight off and thus brought the book it s flare of drama and suppressed feelings needing to be released The book also had exceptionally wonderful secondary characters, and the author created a typical small town of people each with their own problems, craziness and differences in opinion The author really dug deep with her characters emotions and I was not only intrigued but well and truly sucked into the world of a small town out to fight for survival, and it felt at times as if I was drowning with them all in a lake of despair and dreams lost The backdrop setting was calming, inviting and fun The lake played a very unique role as the author lets the calmness of the lake portray the feelings of her characters, one minute they can seem calm and in control but much like the lake that can with the right elements of nature take on a dangerous turn, so does the characters when they loose control be it in the heat of the moment or when provoked I loved that the author lets the read flow to a point where I as reader was pleasantly surprised to see that Annika also gets a chance to save Finn and the book became a we save each other read, where as most books focus solely on he saves her or she saves him and not we save each other The dialogue was very fun and upbeat, going from crazy to sexy and back to emotional and deep The author did a exceptional job at sending out a message to me as reader of sometimes not taking a chance will leave you lonely, unfulfilled and ultimately in regret for the rest of your life I highly recommend this read for all readers who love a good wedding story that involves a crazy bride, a sexy as sin groom and the love and support of small town folks.5 5 star review They re drowning in each other s kisses , and only love will save them

I am a massive fan of Fiona Lowe s previous book set in Wisconsin, Boomerang Bride When I heard there were books of a similar vein on the way, I made some very happy book noise. This was such a good book I love that it has a really unique American setting not a lot of romance novels are set in Wisconsin However, as with BB, there was an awesomely cheeky Australian vibe to this book that I just loved.Saved by the Bride has such a wonderful humour and sense of fun about it I loved Annika and Finn as a couple, they were such a gorgeous match Annika was klutzy and prone to bizarre accidents getting a black eye from a rogue wedding bouquet, anyone , but Ms Lowe has managed to make her a strong, capable woman and not a ditz Finn had that stubborn, arrogant business guy vibe going on, but you just knew there was a guy who was going to fall HARD when he found the one.One thing I really loved was that they didn t simply wallpaper over any issues that stood in the way of their HEA each needed the time it took to discover themselves that little bit before taking that next step. The secondary stories that are woven into Saved by the Bride add to and enrich the story of Annika and Finn The jail scene cracked me up only in a small town could something like that happen Whitetail is like so many other towns everywhere, just looking for that little kickstart to bring the town back to life It s a place you wouldn t mind visiting and I, for one, can t wait to go back and read about the adventures of Whitetail s townspeople.Fiona Lowe, you have created a couple, and a town, that you just can t help but cheer for.Note I was provided with an advanced reader copy of this book by Carina Press via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Review originally posted here love wedding stories, and after reading Lowe s debut Carina Press novel last year, I knew I was in for a special treat with the new Wedding Fever series.Annika can t say no to the town she loves so much So when she is asked to step in and act as mayor, she does When she is asked to help the find town a new industry to help them through the economic downturn, she is willing to go to great lengths to do anything and everything she can to make it happen Climbing through a window to crash a party wasn t her ideal way to start a potential business arrangement, but she will just have to make do.Finn has never gotten along with his family, but he loves the family business than he cares to admit When he gets roped into working from the summer house in order to prove he can take on with the company, Finn finds that Annika and the town of Whitetail wasn t what he expected, or wanted to spend his time on But despite their attraction, they might just be too opposites, unable to make a relationship work through the hard parts. There were a lot of things I really liked about this book, and a few things I didn t To start, I liked Annika s character, to an extent She was so sweet, refused to say no to anyone, and put everyone else s needs before her own When that caused her to lose her rented cottage with no place else to go, I thought her reaction was a little ridiculous She was going to sleep in an empty warehouse instead of turning to the people in town that she was bending over backward for Also, she was so focused on getting a new industry in town, that she didn t really listen to what the town wanted to do So when everyone told her how much they wanted the wedding business to work, she was shocked And in my opinion, unfairly so Her anger and pain at their betrayal didn t make sense to me since she just didn t listen to what they wanted. Now, I really liked Finn Sure he came across as emotionally unavailable and stunted, but he also was a sweet guy I loved that although he wanted nothing to do with his father, they were still able to do little things together, they were still able to find some common ground even if it was just the company I liked the way Finn had to really chase after Annika, especially given the way he treated her toward the end I thought he did an appropriate level of groveling, and I was glad to see how desperate he was to win her back.Their romance was at times wonderful, and other times a little difficult for me to understand Yes, their initial attraction was purely physical They were total and complete opposites in so many ways, and although that attraction obviously grew, at times it was difficult for me to see why Finn was a total pain in the ass when he wasn t getting his way and Annika shut him out from the part of her life that he didn t easily fit into They had some incredibly sweet moments together though, and that really made the book better. All in all I enjoyed the first installment of the Wedding Fever series Given some of the secondary characters, I m really excited to read the upcoming books While I didn t love Finn and Annika has much as I had hoped to, I liked them enough to be intrigued by the series and group of people we ve already met.I give Saved by the Bride a B

The residents of Whitetail, Wisconsin are struggling with the economic downturn after the small town s main employer closed the doors and as acting mayor, Annika Jacobson is desperate to ensure her beloved home town survives In a bid to secure new industry, Annika gate crashes the local summer home of Chicago businessman, Eric Callahan, during his daughter s engagement party but her plans are thwarted by the billionaires son and second in command, Finn, who mistakes her for a devious journalist and has her arrested for break and enter Annika s not giving up that easily though and is determined to convince Finn, and his father, that Whitetail is a town worth saving.Annika is an endearing heroine, though feisty, klutzy and determined she is also insecure and vulnerable after both her engagement and art career imploded in Chicago Whitetail is not only her home town but also her sanctuary and she will make any sacrifice to ensure it s future, including becoming Finn Callahan s PA for the summer Living with his father, stepmother and young half brother while his sister plans her wedding and his mother convalesces in the guest house is not how Finn planned to spend his summer, but in order to manage the family business he has no choice At least Annika provides a welcome distraction. The attraction between Annika and Finn sizzles from their first disastrous meeting when they share a steamy kiss and heats up as they are forced to work together They both quickly succumb to their desires but as Finn doesn t believe in commitment and Annika isn t willing to risk her heart after her last relationship ended badly, they agree to a no strings attached summer fling It s an arrangement that suits them both until the line between lust and love begins to blur. There is a lot going on in this novel apart from the development of the relationship between Annika and Finn Finn s family dynamics are complicated by a history of hurt and bitterness, and Finn resents playing at happy families Meanwhile Finn s sister, Bridie, is fretting over her lavish wedding plans and her fiance s seeming disinterest.Additionally, while Annika is pursuing business leads, an idea to market the town as a wedding destination that began as a temporary solution to their economic crisis is embraced by it s residents much to Annika s chagrin and she is hurt when her attempts to secure a manufacturing company s interest are rejected by the townspeople.Funny and heartfelt with appealing characters and a lovely small town setting, Saved By the Bride is a engaging contemporary romance by Australian born RITA award winning author Fiona Lowe Fans who enjoyed Boomerang Bride will enjoy this start to the Wedding Fever series.

To be honest, part of me wants to give this one star But since that s mostly due to my own issues and not the book itself, I m very generously giving it two Because there s nothing wrong with it on most of the romance levels It s a perfectly satisfactory small town romance And if that s all you want, you ll probably like this book. But I had some problems with it In no particular order, those problems are as follows 1 The troubled family father son relationship stuff Look, this is a personal sore spot and I get that authors especially in romances want to end things in happily ever afters, but sometimes they re just not possible And frankly, Annika s meddling in Finn s relationship with his father was totally inappropriate and she deserved him going off on her for it Even at the end, when he s apologizing to her, she feels absolutely no remorse for what she did, just a conviction that she was right No The world does not work that way Do authors that write estranged parent child relationships actually have any experience in trying to mend them Because I have to tell you, as someone who has tried and failed , your band aids are really sort of terrible.2 The plucky townspeople First of all, the idea that a wedding indsutry alone was going to save their town was insane It also ignores the fact that there are plenty of places in Wisconsin that offer that kind of thing already cough, the entirety of Door County Second, the way they treated Annika was terrible Yes, she wasn t listening to what they wanted If they wanted to flounder, she should have let them But none of them had so much as a kind fucking word for her after they ditched her and then she goes back to being buddies with the people who stabbed her in the back I didn t even LIKE Annika half the time, and I was offended on her behalf.3 The weird preoccupation with Scandinavia in Wisconsin It s there, but by no means the biggest part of the state Actually, on the whole, this book felt much less authentically Wisconsin than the first one did And seriously, no one called anyone a FIB You re going to set your hero up as a summer resident and NOT do that What s wrong with you On the whole, I was just very disappointed I greatly enjoyed Boomerang Bride, but I was so angry by the end of this that I m not even sure I could go back and reread that I will most likely give future books from Ms Lowe a pass unless given reason not to.

Review can also be found at my blog Jackie s Book World ARC provided by Netgalley Rating 4.5 5 Saved by the Bride is a romantic and entertaining book that I enjoyed reading Fiona Lowe does a very good job describing the setting and the characters of this book Everyone has a past and they are unable to move forward When Annika is assigned as acting mayor of her small town, she wasn t expecting to find herself dealing with Finn Callahan, his family and her past As acting mayor, she is determined to help her town in their financial crisis, so she is willing to do just about anything to help those that she loves no matter what When Finn is call to attend his sister s wedding, he wasn t happy to find himself trapped in the house that brought unhappiness to his family When Annika stumbles upon Finn at his sisters party, the both start an adventure that will lead them to face their past and their love I really liked how the story is set up and how the characters develop, although the ending was a bit rushed for me I do think that the overall idea of the story was great Both Finn and Annika s story is not just about them, instead is about learning how to overcome their pasts They both bring an element of strength to each other that provides them with a push towards happiness I loved Annika s personality, she is strong and is willing to help her town But when things get tough, her town dismisses her After putting so much effort to helping them out, she is left wondering if what she was doing really mattered to the town Finn s relationship with his family is one of the reason he has issue believing in love He hasn t had the best relationship with his father and he misses that when his step brother is the one spending time with their father than he did when he was younger That is what is keeping him away from his family and therefore closes himself to the opportunity to love The ending was great, the events tied up well, and the characters were able to solve their problems Overall, I would recommend everyone to give this book a try, it really has a lot of elements that make up for the perfect romance story.
