3.5 starsI m not really sure what I was expecting from this book I m familiar with AJ as an author and poet of a sensual nature than murder mystery When she announced the idea for this book I was excited I love a good gritty read.I kind of feel a little bit, not really let down or disappointedmaybe deflated is a good word Basically, Wolves in the Wood didn t grab me like I thought it would.Don t get me wrong, I did enjoy it It is a great read The characters are loveable, even the blooming baddies pull on your heart strings a little bit Apart from the odd typo, it is a really well written book The detail AJ has put in to the descriptions of Cambridge and the surrounding areas, the flow and feel to the mystery and suspense all have you turning those pages. The voice of the book is divided up in to many different parts This gives the reader the chance to bond better with the characters but it also adds a little bit of confusion at times.I think the thing that made this book lose its edge, for me, is that it just felt too romancy and not quite crimey enough If you haven t read AJ s other work, you will definitely be able to tell which other genre she writes in from reading this book Nice, quick, easy read Well worth a read if you don t like your crime too gruesome

This story was filled with mystery and suspense, as the authors first crime and suspense novella this was a great story Discovering that there is a possible serial killer in Cambridge, DCI Hannah Marshall goes on the hunt to try and find the person that is killing young women The case is difficult to solve, with very little clues as to who the killer could be This is a standalone novella, with some familiar characters from the authors other novels It was great to revisit the characters but you do not need to read the authors previous work to follow the plot of the story although I highly recommend them The author describes places in Cambridge so detailed,it is clear that she has researched and is familiar with the area The story flows really well and left me wondering who the killer could be right up till the end of the story The story is detailed but not too graphic and can be read in a fairly short period of time A great introduction to a new genre for the author.
